KYC/AML

Learn what KYC means and what it involves during the verification process. KYC/AML: Your key to financial security and regulatory compliance.

What is the KYC procedure and why is it so important? We'll explain how it can protect you from fraudsters while maintaining anonymity. KYC and AML checks: why is identity verification needed in the cryptocurrency sector?

KYC (Know Your Customer) is the procedure of verifying a customer's identity and assessing potential risks posed by them. But why is it necessary, and why is it nearly impossible to buy cryptocurrency without confirming your identity? Does this contradict the original principles of anonymity and decentralization in the crypto industry? Today, we'll analyze why AML and KYC checks are needed and how they work. We will also explain how verification helps reduce the number of fraudsters while still preserving users' basic anonymity.

The exchange is entitled to request KYC verification when there are suspicions of:

  • Transactions related to money laundering;
  • Operations that may generate income from terrorist and criminal activities;
  • Operations that may generate income from illegal drug trafficking;
  • Transactions related to trade operations with countries subject to an international trade ban by current legislation;
  • Transactions that may generate income from other illegal activities.

Anti-Money Laundering (AML) is a set of measures aimed at combating money laundering, financing of terrorism, and the creation of weapons of mass destruction. This procedure involves the identification, storage, and mutual exchange of information about clients, their profits, and transactions between financial organizations and government agencies.

Most classical financial institutions use AML measures to verify businesses that deal in cash or use cash as a primary asset. They also check enterprises that have funds in various accounts, regularly transfer them to other countries and banks, and purchase futures and other instruments for cash settlements.

In other words, all businesses that might potentially circumvent financial monitoring and launder funds fall under verification.

Overall risk (in percent) – the likelihood that the address is linked to illegal activities. Risk sources include known types of services with which the address has interacted, and the percentage of funds received/sent to these services.

If the service does not conduct such checks, fraudsters may use it as a platform for laundering money and financing terrorism. In such cases, the service itself will be held accountable.

This is why exchanges and other large cryptocurrency companies implement AML requirements in their business and conduct regular KYC verifications.

0-25% – clean wallet/transaction;
25-75% – medium risk;
75%+ – wallet/transaction considered risky.

Check results are based on updated international databases. An address that had 0% risk yesterday may have received or sent an asset to a risky counterparty today. In this case, the risk assessment will change.

To confirm the origin of the funds, we ask users to provide:

  • Information about the platform from which the funds were received;
  • Screenshots of the transaction history;
  • The amount, date, and time of the transaction;
  • Contact person's information and correspondence;
  • Screenshots of the withdrawal of funds from the sender's platform.

In case of a refund within the AML/KYC procedures, the exchange may retain a fee of up to 5% of the refund amount, but not more than $100. Refunds are only possible for bona fide clients who have undergone KYC.

Ensure that your wallet is not associated with fraud, hacking attacks, or other suspicious transactions.

Receipt verification and funds receipt usually take 30–60 minutes.

No. The timing depends on the bank, blockchain, payment system, and other external factors. In most cases, it takes up to 60 minutes.

The average crediting time is from 5 to 120 minutes. In some cases, it can take up to 24 hours. You will receive a notification via email.

No, requests are processed strictly in order. Usually, this takes 5–15 minutes.

The funds have been sent, but displaying may be delayed. Please check the request number—we will verify and send you the transaction link. Then contact your wallet support.

When receiving Bitcoin, the recipient cannot immediately use the coins. Once the transfer is made, it is sent to the Bitcoin network for execution and must be included in a block to become confirmed. The process of including the transfer in a block is called transaction confirmation. Inclusion in 1 block = 1 confirmation; when there are 2 or more confirmations, the transfer is considered confirmed, and operators process the request. This is implemented to protect against the double spending of the same Bitcoin.
